Since 2019, the FIA Mobility secretariat has been working with OAMTC, ADAC, Region I and Green NCAP on the development of a Life Cycle Assessment tool, an expert tool and later came the consumer tool.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method to estimate the material and energy flows of a car, to analyse its environmental effects over its entire lifetime “from cradle to grave”, including the production, operation and its end-of-life treatment. LCA is a scientific methodology resulting in estimated value ranges, allowing comparison of significant differences in a vehicle’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and primary energy demand (PED), combing measurements and statistics.
The aim of these tools is to allow decision-makers to take the most enlightened informed decision when it comes to vehicle and energy choices. The consumer tool is an interactive tool available on the Green NCAP website allowing road users to adapt their vehicle choice to their lifestyle, made available on 01 December, 2022.
We are now entering a new phase of the project. Indeed, for now these tools are available for European countries. The aim is now to expand the geographical area covered by the Green NCAP program to Latin America. Our webinar tailored for Latin American clubs will be held on Tuesday 14 March at 4pm (CET) in collaboration with FIA Region IV office.
