The FIA Foundation posted about a new road safety initiative building on work our Region III Club, ANA, in Mexico has already done.

Mexico is preparing to welcome more than five and a half million football fans to Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey this summer, with millions of journeys concentrated around stadiums, transport hubs, and public spaces. To address the risks where crowds and motorised vehicles will mix, the Tu Mejor Jugada es Cuidarte campaign (meaning ‘Your Best Move Is to Take Care of Yourself’ in Spanish) has launched to support safe mobility for all.

The campaign connects with work that iRAP and ITDP are taking forward with the host cities and their mobility plans. iRAP will carry out star ratings in the host cities contributing to the work to provide spectators and the public with safe roads. This builds on earlier work that iRAP has carried out with the FIA club ANA on star ratings.

ITDP will assist with city mobility plans, including public transport, safe walking, and cycling. It is hoped that the work will also help build further momentum for road safety as a legacy after the tournament. The partners also intend to extend the work to improve safe and sustainable mobility for other major events, including the Mexican Grand Prix.

The campaign is spearheaded by the Aleatica Foundation, in partnership with the FIA Foundation, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), and iRAP, and supported by the President of Mexico’s World Cup coordinator Gabriela Cuevas, Mexico City Department of Mobility, the State of Mexico’s Department of Mobility, Toluca International Airport, and FIA Auto Club OMDAI

The campaign addressed high-risk behaviours through clear messages on speed management and drink driving, and encourages safer mobility choices like pedestrian routes, certified motorcycle helmets, and public transportation. The campaign will be rolled out in public spaces with billboards, bus stops, branded trucks, and signs in high-traffic areas, as well as on high-traffic routes, alongside a digital campaign.
